Today I planned and taught the lesson the whole day. Yes, I am tired.
I changed my lesson plan the moment before class. We were learning about the Revolutionary War. I first let them tell me what we learned in section 2. Then we watched a clip about the changing map of the two sides. Before we started to read section 3 in a group, I assigned each row to play different role and give a report to their leaders/kings. They were Native American, Congress, French, British and neutral. They need to find evidence and facts from the textbook to support their opinions. Same lesson plan, but every class was instructed a little differently. For example, instead of letting them read the textbook within the group, in block 4, they read out loud together and went to work in group. That made sure everyone had an uninterrupted time for reading. I also got better at time management and gave clear instruction as the day went on. Starting from block 2, I made a graphic poster and provided a main question for each row. So they understood better what I was expecting them to do. Those are the things I still need to work on.
Overall, when they were asked if they learned anything from this activity. Almost everyone raised their hands.
